2026 Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500: Towing, Power and Warranty Compared

In the 2026 F-150 vs Ram 1500 matchup, the Ford has the higher maximum tow rating and offers a full hybrid, while the Ram answers with the most powerful six-cylinder engine in either truck and a longer powertrain warranty. Both are full-size, half-ton pickups, so the choice comes down to what you tow, what you carry and how long you plan to keep the truck.

Towing and Payload

Towing and Payload

Towing is where the 2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 differ most, and every rating depends on how the truck is built. In 4x4 form, the F-150 reaches its highest rating with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6.

2026 F-150 4x4 towing ratings by engine
2026 F-150 engine (4x4) Maximum towing Notes
2.7L EcoBoost V6 8,200 lb The Max Tow/Haul Package is not offered with this engine
3.5L EcoBoost V6 13,500 lb SuperCrew, Max Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow axle
5.0L V8 12,800 lb SuperCrew, Max Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow axle
3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 11,600 lb SuperCrew, Max Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow axle
Raptor, 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output V6 8,200 lb -
Raptor R, 5.2L supercharged V8 8,700 lb -

Every F-150 rating applies when properly equipped, and the real limit varies with cargo, passengers, accessories and configuration. The 5.0L, 3.5L EcoBoost and PowerBoost maximums shown require the Max Tow/Haul Package and the optional Max Tow axle. That package, Ford order code 53T, includes an integrated trailer brake controller.

Browse every F-150 on our lot, new and used. If the Max Tow truck you need isn't there, see our Custom Factory Order program or contact us about the setup you want.

The Ram 1500's ratings swing with cab, box, drive, engine and axle ratio, which is written as a number such as 3.21 or 3.92.

2026 Ram 1500 towing ratings by trim and configuration
2026 Ram 1500 trim and setup Engine and axle ratio Maximum towing
Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab, 6'4" box 3.0L six, 3.92 axle 11,610 lb
Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab, 6'4" box 3.0L six, 3.21 axle 8,510 lb
Tradesman 4x4 Crew Cab, 5'7" box 3.0L six, 3.92 axle 11,200 lb
Tradesman 4x4 Crew Cab, 6'4" box 3.0L six, 3.92 axle 11,220 lb
Tradesman 4x4 Crew Cab, 5'7" box 5.7L HEMI V-8, 3.92 axle 9,590 lb
Limited Longhorn or Limited 4x4 Crew Cab, 5'7" box 3.0L High Output six, 3.92 axle 9,240 lb
Tradesman 4x4 Crew Cab, 5'7" box 3.6L V-6, 3.21 axle 6,340 lb

On the Ram, the axle ratio moves the rating more than anything else, so check the axle before you compare engines. More horsepower doesn't buy more towing, either: in a 4x4 Crew Cab with the 5'7" box and 3.92 axle, the High Output six is rated below the standard 3.0L. Matched V8 to V8 in 4x4 form, the F-150 is ahead by 3,210 lb: its 5.0L in a SuperCrew with the Max Tow package and axle, against the Ram's 5.7L HEMI in a Tradesman Crew Cab with the 5'7" box and 3.92 axle.

Payload

The F-150's maximum 4x4 payload changes with the engine, and the Ram 1500's changes with the cab, box and engine.

2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 4x4 maximum payload
Truck and setup (4x4) Maximum payload
F-150, 2.7L EcoBoost V6 1,715 lb
F-150, 3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 1,740 lb

F-150, 3.5L EcoBoost V6 2,175 lb
Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab, 6'4" box, 3.0L six, 3.55 or 3.92 axle 1,910 lb
Ram 1500 Tradesman Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.0L six, 3.55 or 3.92 axle 1,840 lb
Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn or Limited Crew Cab, 5'7" box, 3.0L High Output six, 3.92 axle 1,450 lb

Ford's F-150 payload figures assume a properly equipped truck and vary with accessories and configuration.

Ram offers the High Output version of its 3.0L only on four trims: the Limited Longhorn, Limited, RHO and Tungsten.

The F-150's PowerBoost is Ford's full hybrid, a 3.5L V6 teamed with an electric motor. It makes more torque than any Ram engine and carries the best 4WD fuel economy rating of either truck.

Each truck wins some Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy matchups, so the engine and drive you choose decide which one comes out ahead.

2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 EPA fuel economy by engine and drive
Engine type and drive (EPA city/highway/combined MPG) 2026 F-150 2026 Ram 1500
Base V6, rear-wheel drive 2.7L EcoBoost: 19/25/21 3.6L V-6: 20/25/22
V8, rear-wheel drive 5.0L V8: 16/24/19 5.7L HEMI V-8: 17/22/19
V8, 4WD 5.0L V8 (EPA's F-150 Pickup 4WD listing): 16/24/19 5.7L HEMI V-8: 16/20/18
Best 4WD rating PowerBoost Full Hybrid: 22/24/23 3.6L V-6: 19/24/21

The Ram's base V6 edges the F-150's 2.7L by one combined MPG in rear-drive form. Under the EPA's F-150 Pickup 4WD listing, the F-150's 5.0L V8 pulls ahead of the Ram's 4WD 5.7L HEMI by one combined MPG and four on the highway. The F-150 Tremor has its own, lower EPA estimate, so that lead doesn't carry over to it. The F-150 hybrid's lead over the Ram's best 4WD rating shows up mostly in city driving.

Launch Prices

Launch Prices

The 2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 launched at starting manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) that aren't stated the same way on destination, so the two figures aren't a like-for-like comparison.

Safety Ratings

Safety Ratings

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rates the 2026 F-150 and Ram 1500, and the Ram's overall rating differs by cab.

2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 NHTSA safety ratings
Truck NHTSA overall rating
2026 Ford F-150 5 stars
2026 Ram 1500 Quad Cab, RWD and 4WD 5 stars
2026 Ram 1500 Crew Cab, except the RHO 4 stars (front 4, side 5, rollover 4)

Warranty

Warranty

Powertrain coverage is the 2026 Ram 1500's clearest win over the F-150, with double the years and 40,000 more miles.

2026 F-150 and Ram 1500 warranty comparison
Coverage 2026 Ford F-150 2026 Ram 1500
Bumper to bumper (basic) 3 years / 36,000 miles 3 years / 36,000 miles
Powertrain 5 years / 60,000 miles 10 years / 100,000 miles (2026 models; non-transferable)
Corrosion (perforation) 5 years / unlimited miles 5 years / unlimited miles

If you choose the PowerBoost, Ford adds hybrid-component coverage for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, though normal, gradual loss of high-voltage battery capacity isn't covered. Both trucks come with roadside assistance for 5 years or 60,000 miles, and Ford runs its program separately from the warranty. Which One Fits You

Which One Fits You

Here in the Indianapolis metro, the right half-ton depends on the work you give it.

The 2026 F-150 fits you if:

  • You tow a heavy camper, boat or equipment trailer and want the higher maximum rating, which needs the Max Tow package and axle.
  • You want a full hybrid pickup: the PowerBoost brings the F-150's biggest generator outputs for running tools on the job.
  • You need the longest box either truck offers.
  • You want BlueCruise hands-free highway driving on a Lariat, King Ranch or Platinum.
  • You drive through Indiana winters and back-county gravel and want an off-road F-150: the Tremor adds monotube shocks, and the Raptor adds electronically controlled FOX shocks and a five-link coil-spring rear suspension.

The 2026 Ram 1500 fits you if:

  • You want more horsepower than any F-150 short of the Raptor R, and premium fuel doesn't bother you.
  • You plan to keep the truck for years yourself and want the longer powertrain warranty, which doesn't transfer to a later owner.
  • You want four-corner air suspension, which Ram offers on several trims.
  • You want adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage on every trim, including the Tradesman.

Frequently Asked Questions

At each truck's maximum rating, the 2026 F-150 tows more: up to 13,500 lb with the 3.5L EcoBoost in a SuperCrew 4x4 with the Max Tow/Haul Package and Max Tow axle, properly equipped. The 2026 Ram 1500's top rating is 11,610 lb, for a Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab with the 6'4" box, 3.0L six and 3.92 axle. Both trucks rate far lower in many other setups, so check the rating for the exact truck you're considering.

The 2026 F-150 offers six engines with a 10-speed automatic: the 2.7L EcoBoost V6, 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 5.0L V8, 3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid, the Raptor's 3.5L High-Output V6 and the Raptor R's 5.2L supercharged V8. The 2026 Ram 1500 offers four with an 8-speed automatic: a 3.6L V-6, a 5.7L HEMI V-8, a 3.0L turbo six and a High Output version of that six.

By horsepower, the Ram's 3.0L High Output six makes 540 hp with premium 91 octane required, more than any F-150 except the Raptor R, whose supercharged 5.2L V8 makes 720 hp based on premium fuel. More horsepower doesn't mean more towing on the Ram: in a 4x4 Crew Cab equipped with the 5'7" box and 3.92 axle, that six is rated to tow less than the standard 3.0L.

The two starting prices aren't a like-for-like comparison. At launch, the 2026 F-150 started at $39,330 MSRP for an XL 4x2, before destination. The 2026 Ram 1500 started at $42,025 MSRP for its lowest trim, as Ram lists it, and Ram doesn't say whether that figure includes destination. 4WD and the PowerBoost hybrid add to the F-150's starting price, so compare out-the-door prices on trucks equipped the way you'd buy them, and check the new Ford specials running now.

On powertrain coverage, the Ram leads with 10 years or 100,000 miles against Ford's 5 years or 60,000 miles. Ram's 10-year coverage applies to 2026 models and is non-transferable, so it stays with the original buyer. Basic coverage is the same on both at 3 years or 36,000 miles, as is corrosion perforation coverage at 5 years with unlimited miles. The F-150's PowerBoost adds hybrid-component coverage for 8 years or 100,000 miles.

NHTSA rates the 2026 F-150 5 stars overall. It rates the 2026 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5 stars overall and the Crew Cab 4 stars overall, except the RHO, which NHTSA has not rated. NHTSA can update these ratings after new tests, so confirm them at NHTSA.gov.

Yes. The 2026 F-150 offers the PowerBoost Full Hybrid, a 3.5L V6 working with an electric motor for a combined 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. Its 4WD EPA estimate is 22 city, 24 highway and 23 combined MPG, and with certain equipment groups it runs Pro Power Onboard at up to 7.2 kW.

It depends on the engine and drive. In 4WD, the F-150 PowerBoost hybrid's 23 MPG combined is the best rating of either truck, against 21 combined for the Ram's 3.6L V-6. In rear-wheel-drive base V6 form, the Ram's 3.6L rates 22 combined to the F-150 2.7L EcoBoost's 21. All figures are EPA estimates.

The 2026 F-150 offers 5'6", 6'6" and 8'0" boxes (52.8, 62.3 and 77.4 cubic feet), so it has the longest box of the two. The 2026 Ram 1500 offers 5'7" and 6'4" boxes (53.8 and 61.3 cubic feet, SAE).

Yes. NHTSA updates its results over time, so check NHTSA.gov and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for current ratings before you buy. Packages, equipment and our stock also change, so ask us to confirm what's available now.
