You can shop new Ford Transit vans for sale with us at Ed Martin Ford. Picking the right Transit comes down to three choices: the body, the series and the roof with its length. The 150, 250 or 350 in a Transit's name is its series, and a higher number means heavier duty.

For a full look at the model, see our 2026 Ford Transit overview.
Choosing the Series
The 2026 Transit series run from the Transit-150 up to the Transit-350 HD, which comes with single or dual rear wheels. The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the most the vehicle may weigh fully loaded, counting the vehicle itself, everyone aboard and everything it carries. GVWR tells you a series' weight class and generally rises as you move up the series. Because the vehicle's own weight counts toward it, GVWR is not the same as payload. A specific van's payload is on the label in its door jamb.
The Transit-150 and Transit-250 Cargo Vans each carry two GVWRs, and the incomplete one is Ford's rating for a vehicle an upfitter finishes.
| Series | Body and roof | GVWR |
|---|---|---|
| Transit-150 | Cargo Van, Low or Medium Roof | 8,670 lb (incomplete) or 8,800 lb (complete) |
| Transit-250 | Cargo Van | 9,070 lb (incomplete) or 9,150 lb (complete) |
| Transit-250 | Cutaway or Chassis Cab | 9,070 lb |
| Transit-350 | Cargo Van, Low, Medium or High Roof | 9,500 lb |
| Transit-350 | Passenger Van (XL or XLT) | From 9,250 lb |
| Transit-350 | Cutaway or Chassis Cab, Low Roof | 9,500 lb |
| Transit-350 HD SRW (single rear wheels) | Cargo Van, Cutaway or Chassis Cab | 9,950 lb |
The Transit-350 HD DRW (dual rear wheels) reaches the highest GVWRs of any 2026 Transit.
Engines, Transmission and Drive
The 2026 Transit offers two V6 engines: the 3.5L PFDi V6, which uses port fuel injection and is E85 flex-fuel capable, and the higher-torque 3.5L EcoBoost® V6.
| Engine | Horsepower | Torque | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.5L PFDi V6 | 275 hp | 260 lb-ft | Standard on most configurations |
| 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 | 300 hp | 400 lb-ft | Standard on certain heavy-duty and extended models and available on the rest |
Both engines pair with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, and an auxiliary transmission oil cooler comes standard. The 2026 Transit comes in rear-wheel drive, with AWD available on the Transit-350 Passenger Van.
The 2026 Transit has no EPA mpg rating. Trucks with a GVWR over 8,500 lb are not included in the EPA fuel economy rating system, and every 2026 Transit has a GVWR above that.
Roof, Length and Seating
After the body and series, the roof height, length and seating narrow your 2026 Transit down to the build you need.
Roof height and length go together on the 2026 Transit, so each roof comes with its own set of lengths.
| Body | Low Roof | Medium Roof | High Roof |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo Van | Regular (130"), Long (148") | Long (148") | Long (148"), Extended (148") |
| Passenger Van (XL or XLT) | Long (148") | Long (148") | Long (148"); Extended (148") only on the Transit-350 HD DRW |
| Cutaway or Chassis Cab | Regular (138"), Long (156"), Extended (178") | - | - |
On the vans, Long and Extended share Ford's 148-inch wheelbase code but are different body lengths. Each of these inch figures is a code, not the vehicle's overall length.
Seat count on a 2026 Transit depends on the body, its length and the seating option.
| 2026 build | Seats, counting the driver |
|---|---|
| Passenger Van (XL or XLT), Long Length, any roof | 12 standard |
| Passenger Van (XL or XLT), Long Length, with optional 15-passenger seating | 15 |
| Passenger Van (XL or XLT), Extended Length, High Roof Transit-350 HD DRW | 15 standard |
| Cargo Van, Cutaway or Chassis Cab | 2 standard, or 1 with Passenger Seat Delete |

Match the series to the weight class your work calls for. A series' gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) tells you its class. For 2026, Cargo Van GVWR runs from 8,670 lb (Ford's incomplete-vehicle rating) on the Low and Medium Roof Transit-150 Cargo Van to 11,000 lb on the Transit-350 HD DRW. Passenger Van GVWR starts at 9,250 lb. GVWR is not payload, and each van's own payload is on its door-jamb label.
A 2026 Long Length Passenger Van seats 12 as standard, counting the driver, and offers 15-passenger seating as an option. The Extended Length Passenger Van, a High Roof Transit-350 HD DRW, seats 15 as standard.
Every 2026 Transit has one of two V6 engines. The 3.5L PFDi V6 makes 275 hp and 260 lb-ft and is standard on most configurations. The 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 makes 300 hp and 400 lb-ft, and it is standard on certain heavy-duty and extended models and available on the rest. Both pair with a 10-speed automatic.
A 2026 Transit has no EPA mpg rating, because its GVWR puts it outside the EPA fuel economy rating system.
